Learn more about Stabilyze nutrition bars.
What type of protein is used in the bars?
Stabilyze bars contain whey protein as a primary protein source. The whey protein we use is a product of Bovine milk. The bars contain a combination of three configurations of whey protein: concentrate, hydrolysate, and isolate. The bars also contain nut butters (type varies based on flavor) as an additional source of protein.
What are the benefits of Whey Protein?
Whey protein is the better and preferred protein source between whey and soy protein due to the available essential amino acids found in whey protein. Whey protein contains leucine as a part of all nine essential amino acids required by the body to build, rebuild and maintain muscle mass. Soy protein is derived from the soy plant and does not contain the majority of the essential amino acids and doesn't promote muscle growth, rebuild or maintenance.
Why does the ingredients say it has soy lecithin?
Soy Lecithin is not soy protein. Soy contains a large fraction of protein that is mostly removed from soy lecithin. Because soy lecithin is extracted from the processed oil of the soya bean's shell, it contains none of this protein. Learn more about Soya vs Soy Lecithin.
Why use soy lecithin?
Soy lecithin possesses emulsification properties. This means it can keep a bar's ingredients "together" by making sure that the cocoa and the cocoa butter don't separate. It is also used in bakery items to keep the dough from sticking, and to improve its ability to rise.
Are the bars sugar free?
Stabilyze bars are not sugar free. There is from 3-4 grams (varies depending on flavor) of natural sugars (including organic agave syrup in some of the bar flavors) in the bars to sweeten them. If the organic agave and other natural sugars were not present, the product would have to compensate with an overload of unwanted chemicals to make it "zero sugar".
How are the bars sweetened?
Stabilyze bars primary sweetener is organic agave syrup, a natural plant sugar. And depending on the specific flavor, the bar may contain purified Stevia extract, or Lo Han Guo as the sweetener. As part of the ingredients of the dark chocolate, they do also have a very small amount of Maltitol. See the Nutrition details for flavor specific information.
What is Maltitiol?
Maltitol is a sugar alcohol (a polyol used as a sugar substitute). It has 90% the sweetness of sucrose (table sugar) and nearly identical properties, except for browning. It is used to replace table sugar because it has fewer calories, does not promote tooth decay and has a somewhat lesser effect on blood glucose. It is only a sweetener in the dark chocolate. The main sweetener is all natural, organic agave syrup.
Why do you use sugar alcohol as part of the bars ingredients rather than sugar substitutes?
Stabilyze nutrition bars are specifically formulated to have a minimal effect on a person's glycemic index ratios while still tasting great. By using sugar alcohols in place of other forms of sugar (dehydrated cane juice for example), we can help our customers in their efforts to maintain their glycemic level ratios in the range that is most beneficial to them.
We choose not to use artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame) which for some, not only give a poor after taste, have also been known to have side effects including causing some neurological issues in some people. See the Nutrition details found in Stabilyze bars.

We use a prebiotic fiber in our bars which is beneficial for the well-being of the natural microflora in the lower gut. This type of fiber also remains in the stomach longer to help maintain a full feeling longer than other types of fiber that just flush through your digestive system.
What are net carbs? How do you figure them out on the nutritional facts panel?
Our nutrition facts panel identifies the breakdown of total carbs including dietary fiber, sugars, and sugar alcohols. The net carbs are calculated by subtracting the non-effective ingredients from the total carbs. Examples of the non-effective ingredients include sugar alcohols and fiber.
What is MSG?
As defined by Wikipedia: Monosodium glutamate (MSG, also known as sodium glutamate) is the sodium salt of glutamic acid, one of the most abundant naturally-occurring non-essential amino acids. MSG is found in tomatoes, Parmesan, potatoes, mushrooms, and other vegetables and fruits.
MSG is used in the food industry as a flavor enhancer with an umami taste that intensifies the meaty, savory flavor of food, as naturally occurring glutamate does in foods such as stews and meat soups. This was first prepared by Japanese biochemist Kikunae Ikeda, who was seeking to isolate and duplicate the savory taste of kombu, an edible seaweed used as a base for many Japanese soups. MSG as a flavor enhancer balances, blends and rounds the perception of other tastes. It is particularly popular in Korean, Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
Is MSG added to the bars?
No, MSG is not an additive. However, glutamates are naturally found in all protein sources so therefore there is a small amount of glutamate found as a part of the protein ingredient in all of Innova Nutrition Stabilyze bars. This naturally occurring amount of glutamate should not cause concern for regular consumption.

Stabilyze bars have healthy ingredients, no additives, and 21 essential vitamins and minerals all of which are great for anyone, children included. Please note, however, the bars are not recommended for children under 10 years of age because the Maltitol and high fiber amounts might cause loose stools.
